Tirzepatide is a 39-amino-acid synthetic peptide by Eli Lilly that activates the receptors of two gut hormones: GIP and GLP-1. It is injected under the skin once a week.
It is registered as a prescription medicine: Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes and Zepbound for obesity. In December 2024 the US FDA also approved Zepbound for moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity.
