A tetrapeptide that accumulates in the inner mitochondrial membrane.
SKU 2S-50
SS-31 (international name: elamipretide) is the synthetic tetrapeptide D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2, where Dmt is 2,6-dimethyltyrosine.
The peptide enters cells and binds to cardiolipin, a lipid of the inner mitochondrial membrane.
In September 2025 the US FDA granted accelerated approval to elamipretide under the name Forzinity for Barth syndrome, a rare inherited mitochondrial disease. It is the first approved drug that targets mitochondria. Elamipretide is still being studied in other diseases.
