Thymosin alpha-1 is a 28-amino-acid peptide first isolated from the thymus gland. It is involved in the maturation and activation of T lymphocytes.
Its synthetic form, thymalfasin (brand name Zadaxin), is registered in more than 30 countries, including China and Italy, as an immunomodulating medicine, mainly for chronic hepatitis B.
