PT-141 (international name: bremelanotide) is a synthetic cyclic peptide, an analogue of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone. It was derived from melanotan II and activates the melanocortin receptors MC3R and MC4R in the central nervous system.
In 2019 the US FDA approved bremelanotide under the name Vyleesi as a prescription drug for hypoactive sexual desire disorder in premenopausal women. Common side effects are nausea, flushing and headache; the drug can temporarily raise blood pressure.
